The Vande Bharat Express ( T-18 train set ) or commonly called as a semi-bullet of Indian Railways. It is one of the prestigious and modern trains run and managed by the Indian Railways. It is the second fastest train in India, the first being the Gatimaan Express. It is an engine-less self propelled train. The train has 2 accommodations presently viz. AC chair car, AC Executive chair car. There is a plan to launch a sleeper variant of the train too in popular overnight routes across India. The first Vande Bharat was inaugurated by the honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi in 2019 between Varanasi and New Delhi.
The Indian Railways has set a target to operate 75 Vande Bharat trains in the country by August 15 next year to commemorate 75 glorious years of Independence, As of 2023, Presently there are around 20 pairs of Vande Bharat trains are throughout the country, some notable ones are Varanasi - New Delhi Vande Bharat Express, New Delhi - Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Vande Bharat Express, Mumbai Central - Gandhinagar Capital Vande Bharat Express, Mysore - MGR Chennai Central Vande Bharat Express, Secunderabad - Visakhapatnam Vande Bharat Express, Solapur - Mumbai CSMT Vande Bharat Express, Sainagar Shirdi - Mumbai CSMT Vande Bharat Express, Secunderabad - Tirupati Vande Bharat Express, MGR Chennai Central - Coimbatore Vande Bharat Express, Kasaragod - Thiruvananthapuram Central Vande Bharat Express, Howrah - Puri Vande Bharat Express, Ajmer - Delhi Cantt. Vande Bharat Express.

Vande Bharat Express is truly one of the most modern types of trains that are proudly owned by India. It is purposely given an airplane look from the inside to match its upscale aesthetics. Vande Bharat Express harbors soft cushion seats which makes travel even more relaxing. There are large windows in each coach which makes sightseeing a wonderful experience. Moreover, the catering service of the Vande Bharat Train is phenomenal. Other prominent amenities include automatic doors, smoke alarms, surveillance, odor control system, bio vacuum toilets, sensory taps, etc.

Rajdhani Express is the elite series of trains that regularly gets the highest priority in the Indian Railways and is considered as its most premium train as they only have Air conditioned reserved accommodation. These are operated by Indian Railways and connect the national capital New Delhi with the capitals or the largest cities of the states. Currently 26 pairs of rajdhani trains are in service connecting national capital with state capital mostly, they have fewer stops than other express trains and halt only at busiest prominent stations en route.The meals are included in the ticket price if opted by the traveler. Dynamic pricing has been introduced on all Rajdhani express trains.

Shatabdi Trains are the siblings of Rajdhani Express in terms of priority and catering. They also are one of the fastest trains of the Indian Railways network and connect the major metro cities; presently there are 22 pairs of trains in service. Shatabdi Express are day trains and they usually return to their origin station the same day.They have only sitting classes i.e. AC chair Car, Executive AC Chair Car and Anubhuti class. Dynamic pricing has been introduced on all shatabdi Trains express trains. The fastest train of India Gatiman Express is also a type of Shatabdi Express and Runs between cities of Jhansi & Delhi.

Duronto Express are long-distance fast trains operated by the Indian Railways. Initially these trains did not have any commercial stops between the origin and the destination, but later on the technical stops were converted to commercial stops. There are currently 48 pairs of trains are in service and these trains were introduced in 2009 by Mamta Bnaerjee and were named 'Duronto', meaning 'speedster' in Bengali, as they were comparatively in the class of fastest train of that time in Indian Railways.Duronto Express services connect the several metros and major state capitals of India. These are also reserved trains and have classes 1A, 2A, 3A, Sleeper and 2S. The meals are included in the ticket price if opted by the traveler. Dynamic pricing has been introduced on all Duronto express trains.

The Tejas Express is a semi-high speed fully air-conditioned train introduced by Indian Railways and IRCTC. Some critics also called Tejas as Shatabdi 2.0 with 20% extra fares. It features modern onboard facilities with doors which are operated automatically and Coaches have bio-vacuum toilets, water level indicators, tap sensors, hand dryers, integrated braille displays, LED TV for each passenger with phone sockets, local cuisine, celebrity chef menu, WiFi, tea & coffee vending machines, magazines, snack tables, CCTV cameras, fire & smoke detection and suppression system. Presently there are 8 pairs of Tejas Express and just like shatabdi trains they also have AC chair Car, Executive AC Chair Car and Anubhuti class.

The Double Decker Express are trains with bi-level seating arrangements ( upper deck and lower deck) and operated by the Indian Railways. These trains were started to cater to the cities which are close to each other and hence usually they have only one class AC chair car, but they have more seats than a traditional AC chair coach. The Howrah–Dhanbad AC Double Decker Express was the first of its type to be introduced which was later scrapped due to below average occupancy. Similar outcome was also for the double decker express train between Bhopal and Indore. At present 5 pairs of trains are in active service.

The Garib Rath translates to Poor Chariot, these trains were inaugurated by then Railway minister Lalu prasad Yadav. They are a series of no-frills trains operated by Indian Railways to provide air-conditioned train travel at a cheaper rate compared to regular trains. There are presently 26 pairs of such trains and they have the unique feature of having side middle berths and also the bedding is chargeable to use. They have only 3AC and Chair car class in rake, and do not have a pantry in train composition.

Sampark Kranti Express trains operated by the Indian Railways to provide quick connectivity to the national capital and between prominent cities of the state. The Railway Minister Nitish Kumar in the interim Railway Budget of 2004-05 announced the launch of Sampark Kranti Express.These are the trains which are faster and have fewer stops than a superfast Express and they have a unique feature that they serve multiple moderate to large stations within the state and tend to skip major stations of other states. There are presently 25 pairs of sampark Kranti trains in India and they have 1A, 2A, 3A, SL & Unreserved class in coach composition.

The Jan Shatabdi Express is the affordable and economical version of the Shatabdi Express. They have mostly AC chair cars and 2S classes. There are at present 26 pairs of these trains and a few Jan-shatabdi trains are also equipped with Vistadome coaches that provide 360-degree views of the train journey and have huge glass windows and rotating chairs.

These are special trains run by Indian Railways during the peak season to meet the demands of sudden spikes arised due to vacations or festivals. These trains usually get less priority over regular trains but can be used for the last moment for travel in peak season. The feature that makes it distinct from other trains is that they are usually charged end to end fare for any leg of journey, also they do not have any concession and tatkal quota. These trains usually run in summers or in festivals like Dussehra, Holi, Ganesh Chaturthi, Diwali, Chhath, Kumbh Mela, Makar Sankranti, Rath Yatra etc.

AC Express. Superfast trains are fully air-conditioned trains linking major cities in India. They have high priority and are among the fastest trains in India with limited stops, mostly major junctions. They may or may not have a Pantry coach and food price is not included in ticket fare.

Humsafar Express is a fully premium train with AC-3 Tier and Sleeper class accommodation with modern facilities like Vending Machines, Reading lights, Bio- toilets, braille-integrated numbering, LED Display, CCTV Cameras etc. Train was designed and operated by Indian Railway and it ran firstly between Gorakhpur and Anand Vihar Terminal, New Delhi. At present there are 46 pairs of trains running across India. The fares of this train are around 15–20% higher compared to regular AC-3 tier and Sleeper class fares.

UDAY Express or Double Decker version 2.0. The purpose of this train is to cater the needs of business travelers and will cater to the "busiest routes" with increased seating capacity. At present there are only 2 pairs of trains in operation.

These series of trains are fully unreserved trains and operate on peak routes having more rush. These are unreserved trains equipped with modern amenities like water vending machines, bio-toilets, mobile charging, smoke alarms and CCTV cameras. Presently 13 pairs in service.

These are the most popular long distance trains of India. They are having the average speed of over 55 km/hr to qualify as a superfast train and for that railway collect a small amount for this service. They have less stops compared to the Express trains. They have 1A, 2A, 3A, SL, unreserved classes. These trains usually have a Pantry coach and food is available on payment basis. Also bedroll is provided in AC classes.

These are also common trains of India; they operate on both long and short distance routes. They are having frequent stops and relatively less average speeds. They have 1A, 2A, 3A, SL, unreserved classes. Long distance express trains can have Pantry coaches & food is available on payment basis. Also bedroll is provided in AC classes.

The Passenger and Fast Passenger trains are for short routes and they stop at all stations enroute hence they have slow average speeds. These trains are mostly unreserved, but some may have sleeper class too. Since COVID they are converted into special unreserved express trains and regular express train fares are collected.

Toy Trains operate on the railway lines that were built in the mountainous regions of India.There are presently 5 regions across India, of those 3 lines are UNESCO World Heritage Sites namely Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Nilgiri Mountain Railway & Kalka–Shimla Railway. The other two, namely Matheran Hill Railway and Kangra Valley Railway. Trains on these routes provide a scenic view of nature and are slow in speed. They climb gradients, cross viaducts, make sharp curves & reach high elevated areas.

International Trains are the trains that cross international borders and take to a foreign country. These train tickets are not sold through online reservation, rather done by visiting railway stations and showing VISA and other documents. Presently only trains to Bangladesh are operational and trains to Pakistan are canceled indefinitely due to political reasons.
